Still loads to do

My blog posts are getting fewer and fewer ….. must try harder! What would you lot out there like to see me blog about? I don’t want to bore you to tears with my inane ramblings …… anyways I’m back composing again, lots to do despite the fact that Reckoning is wrapping up, a couple of months of bug fixing and we’re done. I can’t believe it’ll be out in February, I’ve been on it for round about three years now, even more grey hairs than before!

If you consider that ‘inane ramblings’, than I technically don’t even speak a language. :P
Don’t beat yourself up about not coming on more, the fact that you’ve come on to blog to your fans at all shows a real commitment, especially when you’re so busy with Reckoning! Hmm… what to discuss? Well, if you’re inviting us, how about ‘Stop ‘N’ Swop’? I can almost hear you groaning, Heh heh. Still, it’s technically still fresh since it’s inclusion in Viva Pinata TIP, Icicle Chorus:

I’d be interested to know what Stop N Swop rewards were planned to be unveiled in Banjo-Tooie; I’ve seen that cheeky Schoolroom whiteboard promising a “Secret Level” in Ghoulies (more fantastic music for those who haven’t played it – shame!) probably not that elaborate I’m sure…
Still though, it would be interesting to see how you composed the Secrets themes around each of the levels and a little backstory on how Gregg Mayles waltzed into the studio one day yammering on about eggs and keys. Haha!

If you’d like to talk about more Banjo development I’m sure nobody would mind, heh, it might be encouraged in fact!

    Hey, long time no see!

As for what to blog about, what Lerako said was good, and we’d also probably be interested in Project Dream and any other tunes that started out in that game and got used later.

That is, if you’re comfortable with it.

  3. Johny Says:

I would also like to hear more unused/beta tunes from Banjo/Dream.

We’re not going to groan over what you blog, no way! I’m just glad to know you’re alright, period.

I don’t really have any suggestions on what to blog, but I would be interested in hearing what it was like when you composed Ghosts ‘N’ Ghouls, being a different console and idea completely.
Oh, and maybe a bit more of how Reckoning’s going? :)

maybe you can discuss the process of how it is to match up the dialog to characters that are not mocapped? Also a small request, maybe someone would be willing to add a feature in Reckoning to give some of the weapons dialog, and make them intelligent. Something to add some banter as you run around, maybe its a sword thats blood thirsty and enjoys it every time you get a critical hit, or maybe it’s a weapon that has high detect hidden ability and calls out whenever you’re near a hidden door as example.

Also I’d be very interested in hearing your thought process of how you write a piece for the many types of environments, do you just read a short paragraph or a few descriptive words and try to write for that. How do you decide which instruments to use when you compose? What is the tone and mood you were aiming to write for? It seems somewhat whimsical in some scenes I’ve heard.

Don’t be worried about inane ramblings–what do you think 90% of the internet is, anyway!
I dunno, though. You can’t really translate music into a blog very well compared to some other mediums, can you?

  7. Michael Says:

    “Inane ramblings”… a likely excuse!

I can’t wait to play the game and hear your music in an RPG setting; that will be amazing. I hope there isn’t/wasn’t much of a crunch like I’ve heard about with Rockstar to get it all done though!

  8. Wolfo Says:

Hey, whatever you blog we’ll read it, and we’ll reply to it haha. Doesn’t matter if it’s inane ramblings.

So hey, what kind of last minute music are you composing at the moment?

  9. JohnWeible Says:

I would be very interested in learning what processes you go through in making music and what kind of software/equipment you use.

  10. David Says:

Anything about the writing process for Nuts and Bolts or Reckoning would be really interesting. Also any betas/leftovers from Viva Pinata/Nuts and Bolts/Reckoning would be awesome!

  11. Ribs Says:

Grant, please tell us which of the Dream tunes you haven’t managed to recycle yet?

Well well, if it isn’t young Ribbsey being cheeky! You of all people should know I would never do such a thing …. heh!
