Treasure Trove Cove

This of course started life as Dream. After a year or so of development Rare management decided it wasn’t going in the right direction and a change was needed. The Bear and Bird was born and the rest is history!

This was a special moment in time for me, the Banjo team was a fantastic bunch of people and we really felt it was us against the world. It was the just the right combination of people at the right time. I spent most of my time at Rare working with the core of this team and it really was fantastic fun.

I remember we were nearly done with the game and Chris Stamper decided he didn’t like the first two level tunes ('Mumbo’s Mountain' and 'Treasure Trove Cove') so I had to change them quickly. The original tune for 'Mumbo’s Mountain', can still be heard inside the termite hill, I thought it suited the place so I left it. The original 'Treasure Trove Cove' tune had a sort of Beach Boys 'Wipe out' middle section to it, I still have the midi file somewhere, maybe I’ll dig it out for posterity.

I remember spending a lot of time on those voices (even though it might not sound like it!) it drove me mad. Chris Sutherland(Lead Programmer) was the voice of Banjo and Kazooie, I was Mumbo Jumbo and I think I did the “Jinjo” high voice too as well as lots of the baddies that popped up here and there. Chris Seavor(Designer of Conker) was the voice of Grunty.
